Wolfe of Westerham cycling sportive
ABOUT THE EVENT
Named after local hero Major General James Wolfe, the Wolfe of Westerham is a sportive to do battle with. 2016 was the first Wolfe event and following great feedback it returns for the third edition in 2018.
You’ll head out from the historic Squerryes Court, which is opening to the public exclusively for the day.
The peloton will follow one of two main routes, though both will allow "York's Hill Challenge" options:
The Long Wolfe is a challenging 67-mile course through the beautiful Kent and Surrey countryside, taking in some of Westerham Cycling Club’s favourite routes. Along the way you’ll be climbing up to 1600 metres, including Hubbard’s Hill, Pains Hill and Toys Hill.
The Short Wolfe is a 40-mile course through much of the same challenging countryside with circa 800 metres of climbing including the hills of Pains and Toys.
The York's Hill Challenge adds a few miles to both routes and the additional climbing of York's Hill will see you tackle #15 of the Official Cycling Climbs of the UK - at just 0.6km in length, its 92m of vertical ascent, average gradient of 14% and ramps of 20% make it a challenge to all riders.
When you’ve defeated (tamed) the Wolfe, any of them, you will be greeted by the team back at the beautiful setting of Squerryes Court and a welcome glass of Squerryes award-winning sparkling wine. There you will be able to enjoy the festivities with a band playing on the lawn, food and drink, and entertainment for the children..
