A PB fest at the 35th Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon
Report from Vanessa Gilmartin:
Conditions were perfect for the 35th Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon on Sunday 18th February with a good turnout for the club. 10 runners took on the notorious course and the prospect of THAT hill!
George Strong, Andy Evans, James Cooper, James Baker, Ness Gilmartin, John Davie & Jenny Hodkinson lining up at the start
Unfortunately a hip injury meant that John had to bail early in the race, however he has assured us he was on for a 1:33:53. Get better soon John!
Special mention should be given to James Cooper who ran the race without any particular thought for time – aside from the self-proclaimed “optimistic” target Coach Dave had set him. Running using his HR as a guide, he smashed his previous PB by an amazing 11 minutes and finished with a 1:33:26 – proving yet again that these coaches know what they are talking about!
PB’s also for George Strong, Jenny Hodkinson & Ness Gilmartin with Jenny under orders to take this race easy following a recent knee injury! Ness placed 2nd in her AG and 10th overall female.
Course PB’s for Andy Evans and Lou Strong and a great finish by Altaf who swears he will never do it again (so we’ll see you next year then!). Chris Palmer unfortunately picked up an ankle injury so finished slower than he had hoped but still in a good time.
