The fourth round of the competition was Redhill triathlon on 21st August. We didn't have any 7oaks members taking part but Epsom and Tri-Surrey had a large presence for the Surrey race. Tri-Surrey had a huge team of 39 members which means that they will probably now win the 'Mob' competition.
For the female standings, Epsom have now had two wins which means that they need another win at southwater to beat 7oaks. 7oaks are 3rd behind Epsom and Tri-Surrey in the male standings. Here's how the table stands:
The 4-up is on the morning at Brands - the rest of the weekend there is the Revolve24 endurance event.
It's a spectacular event. The 24-hour event has many possibilities for teams, and the 6 hour on the Sunday is open to solo riders and pairs.
Jason Kenny will be taking part in the 24 hour event in a team of 4 - great chance to meet our Olympic hero!
Unfortunately this afternoon's TT at Grain has had to be cancelled due to heavy rain and forecast very high winds (40mph+).
The traditional end of season 4 Up Time Trial in the Inter Club TT competition will this year be held at Brands Hatch racing circuit on closed roads. We will have use of the circuit and the pit lane from 8.00am to 10.00am for the race.
This is a unique opportunity which is unlikely to be repeated. If you have never ridden in a team time trial, it is a fabulous experience. It feels like you could be in the GB Team Pursuit, although most of us are going quite a bit slower!
Neil absolutely flew round the course to beat second place by nearly a minute. Martin rode really well for a solid 3rd place. Janice was fastest 7Oaks lady. Andy got a PB. He is also the most consistent rider. He's only missed one Inter Club TT all season.
In the club competition, Val has the maximum 60 from 6 scoring rides, Susan is in second and Georgie is now clear in 3rd. Sam Begg is looking unbeatable in the men's competition. Andy Evans in 2nd and Sam Bennet is 3rd.
Great running in the park last night with four people beating their handicaps. The handicaps are based off runners' previous bests over this course. Perhaps this training malarky might actually improve performance!
First finisher was Georgie who is smashing her PBs on the swim and the run at the moment.
Fastest run on the night was Adam with a 20:36.
Shaun was taking it easy as he's racing on Sunday and Yon is coming back after a 2 year lay off due to injuries.
If anyone is considering triathlon coaching, there is a BTF course running 18/19 Feb and 26 Mar 2017 at Sevenoaks School. Please feel free to ask me about what the course entails.
Dave Truman (BTF Level 2 Coach)
Is ON this afternoon/evening at 5:30pm.
Congratulations to the mixed team of Sam Begg, Cath Linney, James Baker, George Strong, Val Place and Jane Wiley for winning the mixed team competition at Ocean lake tri on Saturday!
It means that 7oaks tri club are now 2016 BTF south east mixed team champions as we have 3 wins in a row!
Congratulations also to the female team of Cath Linney, Val Place and Jane Wiley, also collecting the maximum 50 points on Saturday ahead of Tri-Surrey. We are leading the female competition with 140 points with Tri-Surrey in second place with 62.
Reports of a low flying cruise missile over Brands Hatch last night proved to be unfounded. It was the Brown/Hansenator 2 Up blasting the Q10/27 and setting a new KOM on Strava.
GS Avanti were out in force again and will have extended their lead in the inter club competition.
In the club competition, Val now has the maximum 60 from 6 scoring rides, Susan is in second and Georgie and Glenda are tied for 3rd. Sam Begg is looking unbeatable in the men's competition. Andy Evans is now in 2nd and Sam Bennet is 3rd.
There was a great turn-out from 7oaks tri with 14 members completing the third round of the Ocean lake sprint races. This was also the 3rd round of the BTF south east club competition for which I think we scored very well but I'll wait for the results from the BTF official before uploading them here.
The weather mostly held off and conditions were pretty good at Polhill last night.
Sydenham and GS Avanti were out in force and scored very well. The 8 7OaksTri riders performed very well. Providing 10 marshals/starters/timers meant we were a bit down on point scoring.
Latest interclub standings:
GS Avanti - 362
7OaksTri - 325
Sydenham - 285
Another strong showing from 7OaksTri.
Due to high tide not being until 10:45am it was a late start for five 7oaks tri members swimming in between the yachts in the estuary. It was breezy, creating some chop in the water. The sun was out, adding to the seaside holiday atmosphere and I was glad I took the offer of some factor 50 before we set out on the undulating and windy cycle route. The heat was taking it's toll and the last few miles of the bike seemed to drag.
The threatened roadworks didn't appear and conditions were good. This new Brands course is significantly harder so times are down from previous years. Sam struggled with tired legs after his awesome 6th overall at the Outlaw Half at the weekend. He said his average power was down 30 watts. Well he still won by over 20 seconds and set the 3rd fastest time ever on this course on Strava!
The Peak District Triathlon was the final GBR qualifying event for the 2017 ETU Sprint Distance European Championships in Dusseldorf.
The planned Roadworks on the A20 were not there this morning or early afternoon.
On that basis we'll go ahead. If they do spring up, we'll proceed with the event, but it won't score in the competitions as some people will be held up.
The JLL Property Triathlon just grows and grows and is now the second largest in the UK - the events include a 2.2km swim a duathlon and a sprint triathlon all at Dorney Lake nr Eton. 7Oaks Tri Club members dominated the over 50 categories - with a win in the 20 -25 yr age group category as well ( phew).
20 - 25 yrs
James Manning - 29.28 and 3rd overall
50 yrs +
Peter Manning - 36.11
