FAQs

  • When will I know my Bib Number and start time?
    • Bib numbers and start times will be issued via e-mail 2-3 weeks before the event.
  • What time does the race start?
    • The first swimmer will set off at 6:30am.
  • Can I start at the same time as my friend?
    • We take into account a range of factors when determining the swim start times to ensure the best experience for everyone in our event.   If we know in advance we may be able to accommodate such a request.
  • Can/should I wear a wetsuit in the pool?
    • Wetsuits are not permitted in indoor swim events.
  • Can I wear calf guards during the swim?
    • Calf guards are only allowed in pool swims if you have a medical exemption.  It is useful to have this in place before race day so that we can make the relevant officials aware. Please contact us in advance if you need to wear calf guards and provide a copy of your medical certificate/practitioner’s letter.
  • Is it a dive start?
    • No – you will be invited to get into the pool at the shallow end and the starter will count you down.
  • Can I do tumble turns?
    • Tumble turns are permitted, but we reserve the right to restrict them if they might affect other swimmers in the same lane, but this is very rarely an issue.  Please check with the swim starter marshal when you get poolside.
  • Do I need special kit?
    • The essential kit is a swimming costume and goggles (we provide swim hats to use), a bike in roadworthy condition with a puncture repair kit, a water bottle, a bike helmet, bike shoes and running shoes.
  • What is a race belt and do I need one?
    • Your race number can be attached to a race belt which is worn around your waist.  You would put it on after the swim when you are in transition with the race number showing at the back for the bike leg and then simply slide it round to the front for the run leg.  Most triathletes find it faster and more convenient to use a race belt instead of having different race numbers pinned on to clothing.
  • What if I get a puncture on the bike course?
    • You are responsible for fixing a puncture on the bike course and should be carrying a puncture repair kit.  However, there are marshals on the course who will try to help you if you are unable to do it yourself.
  • Will there be any bike mechanical support on race day?
    • The Bike Warehouse, our local cycle shop and one of our race sponsors, will have a stand near the transition area for last minute bike mechanicals and basic kit repairs.
  • What is the surface of the run like?
    • There’s a bit of everything on the run - packed earth (or mud depending on the weather), grass, tarmac and tracks.
  • Will there be a water station anywhere?
    • There will be a water station on the run course
  • Are there toilets on the course?
    • There are no toilets on the course.  Public toilets are available at the Leisure Centre.
  • Can I wear earphones/mp3 player/earbuds/use a mobile during the race?
    • No! These items are not allowed in any phase of the race. Please refer to the BTF Rules.
  • If I need first aid/medical assistance during the race is this available?
    • Yes.  Paramedics will be available.  One unit will be based at the Leisure Centre and one unit will be mobile on the back of a motorbike.
  • Can I withdraw?
    • Should you wish to withdraw from the event and defer your entry until the 2022 race you can do so as long as you contact us (race@7oakstriclub.co.uk) on or before 14th March 2021. After this date we cannot defer your entry. Alternatively, you may transfer your place to another athlete by logging in to your Active Endurance account and entering the email address of the person you want to transfer your entry to on or before 14th March 2021. After they have registered and paid you will receive a refund of your race entry less a processing fee.

We don’t maintain a waiting list.  People either transfer to a friend or defer to the following year (please see FAQs re transfers and withdrawals).
